I’m a self-taught artist with a home art studio in Byron Bay, NSW Australia. I enjoy exploring oil painting materials and their properties, the problems of subject and composition, and the intricacies of colour.
I started to take notice of art while exploring European galleries during a year-long backpacking travel adventure as a twenty-one year old.
I moved to London in the mid 1990s and, while travelling extensively, I took every opportunity to visit galleries and exhibitions where I developed my enthusiasm for art, especially painting.
I returned to Australia in 2005, relocated to Byron Bay, Northern NSW, and began painting. I enrolled in several Community Education art courses and especially enjoyed ‘An Introduction to Oils’. For about two years I painted in Bernadette Curtin’s Tuesday Group at Still@theCentre.
With my paintings I try to create an interesting surface but also, usually, I like to suggest a narrative or evoke a memory.
I continue to paint in my home studio and occasionally sell a painting through local art prizes.
I haven’t yet settled on my personal style. Instead I’m still experimenting and enjoying the complexities of subject, composition, and colour.
